Assam Profile : An Overview

Assam, one of the eight northeastern states of India, has an unusually rich diversity of ethnic groups, languages, religions, climates and landscapes. The state is spread along the Valley of Brahmaputra River and is famous for its tea plantations and for the rare “one horned rhinoceros”.

Assam is the gateway to north eastern states. It has vast natural resources, rich flora and fauna, rivers and wild life sanctuaries etc. Assam is surrounded by highlands and plateaus on three sides except the western part where the Brahmaputra Valley merges with the Gangetic Plain. The state has international borders with Bangladesh and Bhutan.
